Micro-Gaming Meets Language-Learning in Company's Latest EdTech Mobile App
ARLINGTON, VA - October 17, 2013 - Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST) a leading provider of education technology solutions, today announced the launch of Rosetta Stone® Arcade Academy, a richly produced mobile app that explores the intersection of entertainment and education. Leveraging the core methodology of Rosetta Stone's renowned language-learning technology, Arcade Academy teaches Spanish through a fast-paced series of games designed to build language proficiency through fun and engagement.
Arcade Academy is a collection of micro-arcade-style games woven around the compelling storyline of a teenage girl who relocates with her family to Bogota, Colombia, and faces unexpected language and cultural challenges. Designed and built by Rosetta Stone's recently established San Francisco and Austin product development teams, the app boasts a decidedly retro feel, with colorful characters and widely varied game interfaces. Users learn Spanish by stepping through levels of increasingly difficult game-play, identifying or matching images, words or phrases in one language with images, words or phrases in the other. Arcade Academy's surprising "pay-off" is likely to keep winners playing over and over again.
"We're constantly thinking of new ways to improve the learner's experience," said West Stringfellow, Rosetta Stone's Chief Product Officer. "We know that engagement is critical to learning success and Arcade Academy really shines on that count. By wrapping Rosetta Stone's proven-effective language-learning methodology in a set of retro, rapid-fire games, we're offering an outstanding learning alternative that holds its own as both education and entertainment."
Developed for devices in the iOS ecosystem-including Apple's iPhone and iPad-and compatible with iOS 7, the Rosetta Stone® Arcade Academy app includes 12 unique games featuring 120 game variations that teach 50 core Spanish words and phrases in over 400 different combinations. Users can track their progress by accessing the Honors Page, a leader board that motivates players to continue learning, and encourages them to share their personal achievements with friends via Game Center.
Rosetta Stone® Arcade Academy is Rosetta Stone's first new gamified language-learning app for adults, following the September release of Rosetta Stone Kids Lingo Letter Sounds®, which was designed for children ages 3-6.
Rosetta Stone is continuing its expansion deeper into language and beyond, positioning itself in the center of today's education-technology movement. The company's cloud-based learning solutions are used by millions of individuals and thousands of schools, businesses and government organizations around the world. Additional mobile apps are slated to launch later this year and in 2014.
Rosetta Stone Arcade Academy is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com.
