Students Complete Record Number of Reading Skills Activities on Lexia Reading Core5
BOSTON (August 17, 2015) - Lexia Learning®, a Rosetta Stone® (NYSE:RST) company, today announced that students using the Lexia Reading® Core5® pre-K-5 fundamental literacy program reached a significant milestone last school year-and they are poised to surpass that achievement in the upcoming year. In a recent national analysis of student progress from the 2014-15 school year, Lexia found that students mastered 15.3 million reading skills in Lexia Reading Core5.
"This milestone exemplifies the commitment of thousands of teachers who ensured that their students had access to the personalized learning necessary to reach their full potential," said Nick Gaehde, President of Lexia Learning. "It's a tremendous accomplishment for the students who have worked so diligently on Lexia Reading Core5 and have established an important foundation for their future academic success."
The 15.3 million reading skills completed represents a 119 percent increase over the 2013-14 school year when students completed approximately 7 million skills. More than 430,000 fully engaged students on Lexia Reading Core5 mastered an average of 21 skills in the program, representing more than one grade-level of skills. These students used the program for at least 20 weeks and met the required number of minutes for at least five weeks.
Lexia Reading Core5's dynamic, personalized learning paths engage students through 18 levels of age-appropriate, skill-specific activities ranging from rhyming and letter matching to complex analogies and passage comprehension. In addition to independent, personalized learning in the five areas of reading instruction - phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension - students receive scaffolding, explicit instruction and, if needed, teacher-led instruction using Lexia's structured lesson materials.
Lexia's unique embedded assessment technology, Assessment Without Testing®, gathers norm- and criterion-referenced student performance data without administering a test. This data is highly correlated to, and predictive of, student outcomes on commonly used measures such as DIBELS® and aimsweb®. This technology identifies and prioritizes students for small group or individual instruction, providing teachers and intervention specialists with recommended instructional strategies and structured lessons, including the minutes-per-week of software usage each student needs in order to meet expectations on grade-level assessments.
