Vi Breaks Language Barrier with Rosetta Stone

Language Learning Solution Helps Employees Better
Serve Community Residents

Arlington, VA (August 17, 2010) – Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST), a leading provider of technology-based language-learning solutions, announced today that Vi, formally known as Classic Residence by Hyatt, an industry leader in senior living, has provided its employees with the award-winning Rosetta Stone® Enterprise solution. This powerful training tool that builds foundational language skills is helping employees fulfill the expectations set forth by Vi to enrich the lives of senior adult residents by providing a higher quality environment, and enhanced service and care. Vi’s implementation of the Rosetta Stone solution is a strategic initiative designed to enhance the communication skills among Vi’s managers and their employees, specifically breaking down language barriers with employees who speak English as a second language (ESL).

Vi, named for its fresh approach to the concept of senior living, manages, owns and develops 20 locations and communities across 11 states, employing more than 4,000 across the country. With a diverse group of employees serving in a strong culture of hospitality, Vi executives felt it was necessary to leverage a program that would engage employees who spoke other languages. In August of 2009, after researching various programs and the implementation of a new learning management system, Vi selected the Rosetta Stone Enterprise solution for its employees. Vi’s program allows native Spanish-speaking employees to learn English through Rosetta Stone. Demand for the program by employees has been high, with hundreds of employees using the program to learn a language in the last year, including managers who wish to learn the native languages of their employees.

Vi believes internal marketing is critical to success, which is why the company continually promotes language learning via flyers, newsletters, emails and more.  “We promote during the recruitment process that we offer Rosetta Stone as one of our employment differentiation points that furthers employee development,” said Judy Whitcomb,Vi’s  assistant vice president, learning and organizational development. “Because we’re so service focused, we want to make sure our employees have the learning tools and resources to make them successful in their role in serving our residents”.

“We’re pleased to partner with Vi to provide its employees with an essential language tool that has helped them to better communicate with their co-workers and residents,” said Pete Rumpel, vice president of institutional sales and marketing at Rosetta Stone.  “Employees are now crossing language barriers and engaging with one another and residents.  The scalability of Rosetta Stone Enterprise also equips managers with the tools necessary to hold their employees accountable and ensure that their language skills meet the needs of a diverse community.”
