Rosetta Stone Calls on Congress to Boost Innovation
Passing Online Infringement Legislation Will Bolster Job Creation and Grow the U.S. Economy

ARLINGTON, Va., Mar 09, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST), a leading provider of technology-based language-learning solutions, announced that Chief Technology Officer Mike Fulkerson will testify today at a hearing on "Driving American Innovation: Creating Jobs and Boosting our Economy" before the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet.

"Research and development and innovation play a critical role in business expansions and job growth," Fulkerson said today. "Rosetta Stone's investments in innovation have dramatically accelerated our growth. Our employee base has grown from a few hundred located in Harrisonburg, VA in 2003 to more than 2,000 employees today in offices around the world. Our revenues have grown 10-fold, from roughly $25 million in 2004 to more than $258 million in 2010. The growth of Rosetta Stone exemplifies the dramatic impact that investment in technology and product innovation can produce."

"We want to thank Chairman Goodlatte and the other members of the Subcommittee on Intellectual Property, Competition and the Internet for holding a hearing to discuss the important role that research and development and innovation play in job creation and the growth of the U.S. economy," said Michael Wu, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Rosetta Stone. "In order for homegrown companies such as Rosetta Stone to benefit from their research and development efforts, we urge the House Judiciary Committee to work with the Senate Judiciary Committee to pass online infringement legislation that will protect U.S. businesses from the rampant theft committed by rogue websites. We also implore Congress to ensure that such legislation includes provisions that empower the U.S. Department of Justice to seek court orders requiring search engines to refrain from providing their services to rogue websites. Otherwise, search engines such as Google will continue to be the gateway to piracy, harming both American businesses and consumers."
