(Thomson Reuters ONE via COMTEX) --Rosetta Stone and Disney Interactive Partner to Launch New Web Video Series
Inspired by Disney's classic theme park attraction, 'it's a small world: the animated series' expands Rosetta Stone's recent entry into the children's consumer market
ARLINGTON, VA-December 3, 2013- Rosetta Stone Inc. (NYSE:RST) today announced a major partnership with Disney Interactive designed to heighten kids' knowledge of places and cultures around the world, while giving them an early edge in foreign language skills. Rosetta Stone Kids® Lingo Word Builder®, the company's just-released language and literacy app for children, is the exclusive sponsor of it's a small world: the animated series from Disney Interactive. The original series premieres today on Disney.com, Disney's YouTube network and across Disney's connected TV apps, and will be widely promoted across the companies' social media channels.
For Rosetta Stone, the partnership marks a continuation of its strategic push into the kids' education and entertainment market. The sponsorship represents Rosetta Stone's first media joint-venture to promote multi-cultural awareness and language learning to children ages 3 to 12.
Inspired by the iconic Disney Parks attraction, 'it's a small world,' the richly animated online series consists of eight episodes that follow a group of children from different countries as they cross the globe to explore new lands. Led by Mr. Balloon and Wazoh, the cast of children comes to life through animation inspired by Disney artist Mary Blair's original designs for the popular theme park ride. The new series also features original music from Richard Sherman, the legendary Disney composer of the attraction's memorable theme song, "It's a Small World (After All)." Richard Sherman's work on the 1964 film, Mary Poppins, is also chronicled in the upcoming Disney movie, Saving Mr. Banks.
it's a small world: the animated series features a Rosetta Stone-branded episode called 'The Rosetta Stone,' which focuses on a journey to the British Museum to discover the importance of the actual Egyptian Rosetta Stone tablet in the history of cross-cultural understanding. A special language-learning segment dubbed 'Words with Wazoh' will follow each series episode. Subsequent videos in the series will center on visiting new countries, where the cast of characters introduce viewers to culturally unique words and customs from around the world.
"No one speaks the language of children better than Disney and no one teaches language better than Rosetta Stone, so this partnership is a natural fit," said Prag Shah, Rosetta Stone's President of Global Consumer Markets. "We couldn't be more excited to join forces with the iconic Disney brand to provide children with the ultimate experience in multicultural awareness and language-learning."
"At Disney Interactive, we're constantly looking for new ways to bring fans closer to the Disney characters and stories they love. With it's a small world: the animated series, we're leveraging the interactive medium to bring a classic Disney experience to life for a whole new generation," said Mark Walker, SVP of Disney Interactive Entertainment. "Rosetta Stone is an excellent partner for us as we share a common goal to inspire children by producing compelling experiences on digital platforms."
The partnership with Disney provides well-timed promotion for Rosetta Stone Kids® Lingo Word Builder, the sequel to the company's first hit kids app for children, Lingo Letter Sounds®-which became the second most downloaded app in Apple's kids' education category when it was released earlier this year. By leveraging Disney's unparalleled marketing muscle, Rosetta Stone is demonstrating that it continues to invest aggressively in the expansion of its children's education technology portfolio. Rosetta Stone's cloud-based learning solutions are used by millions of individuals and thousands of schools, businesses and government organizations around the world-numbers that are likely to grow significantly as a result of this new venture.
