Literacy program currently in more than 255 Utah schools supporting nearly 100,000 students
BOSTON, March 20, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- After just six months of using the Lexia® Core5® Reading (Core5) program, 3,060 K-3 students in 10 elementary schools throughout the state of Utah have made significant literacy gains. The elementary schools highlighted in a recently released report are exemplar schools using the Early Reading Intervention grant, and their students have been consistently using Core5 since August 2018.
In earlier reports, researchers had also observed the program's positive influence on young learners' progress in the 2017-2018 school year when the percentage of approximately 46,000 K-5 students classified as working in or above grade level in the fall more than doubled by June (from 49 percent to 94 percent). Similar results were observed in the 2016-2017 school year when the percentage of more than 22,000 K-5 students working in or above grade level nearly doubled by mid-year (from 49 percent to 92 percent).
Developed by Lexia Learning, a Rosetta Stone® (NYSE:RST) company, Core5 is a research-proven, technology-based program that accelerates the development of fundamental literacy skills for early learners of all abilities. It is one of only four programs named by the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) as an approved provider of early interactive reading software on the state-funded list, and it is the only program approved for site-wide use with implementation support services and trainings included.
"I highly recommend Lexia Core5 Reading," said Robin Coleman, curriculum coordinator, Kane County School District, Utah. "The activities are adaptive, relevant, and engaging for the students and align with our core curriculum. The teachers love that the easy-to-use educator dashboard helps drive their small-group instruction with targeted, offline lessons as part of a blended learning model. Lexia's Implementation Support Team helps me quickly review and share our data at the district, school, and classroom levels to help us refine instruction. Lexia is a company that is not just selling software but providing the hands-on support our students and our schools need to succeed."
In addition to ensuring ease of use, Lexia is consistently delivering impressive literacy results with Core5. In the 10 exemplar schools, the percent of students working in or above grade level more than doubled, increasing from 40 percent in August 2018 to 87 percent by early February 2019. The proportion of students working below grade level decreased substantially, from 60 percent to 13 percent in just over half of a school year.
"These current results are consistent with what researchers in Utah have been reporting, and we are gratified to have educators' confidence in us confirmed yet again," said Lexia Learning President Nick Gaehde. "Year over year, Core5 and the teachers it helps empower are having an indisputable effect on students' reading skills. We look forward to helping many, many more students in the years to come."
